Clinic Open Day

The TBFREE centre in the Northern Cape in partnership with the Provincial Department of Health and the staff at Ritchie Clinic in Kimberley hosted a clinic open day on 02 October 2009. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about the benefits of treatment compliance to patients that are on TB treatment and their immediate family members and / or support structures as well as to honour the patients that have adhered to and successfully completed their treatment course.

Twenty cured TB patients were presented with food parcels for having persevered through their 6-8 months treatment journey. They in turn also gave a word of encouragement to those members of the community who were still on this path to keep at it and make use of the support and care they receive through the DOT supporters.

The event was able to reach out to 230 people, who were educated on TB prevention, treatment compliance and the importance of following a healthy lifestyle through a play performed by the local DOT supporters. A number of stakeholders including the South African Police Services and the South African Social Services Agency also attended the event and gave words of encouragement to the audience.
