BackDOT training figures
Since TBFREE rolled out its activities to all 9 provinces of South Africa- 33 125 (thirty three thousand, one hundred and twenty five) DOT supporters have been trained through the project’s HWSETA accredited TB manual.
The manual is rated as NQF level 1 and carries 3 credits for each learner who successfully completes the training. This means that TBFREE offers the volunteers an opportunity to further their studies in their various fields of interests as this module
is recognized and complies with the SAQA requirements.
Each centre has a target of between 80 and 120 volunteers to train each month; in order to fulfill TBFREE’s mandate of providing 1 DOT supporter to every 10 TB patients.
those volunteers who are declared competent at the end of training cycle are sent back to their nearest clinic where a TB focal person/ nurse assigns them patients from within their communities that they must assist and support to comply with their treatment requirements.
