Corporate Governance
TBFREE is a joint initiative and project of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis and the Aventis Foundation, a German Charitable Trust. It is being implemented by the Nelson Mandela Aventis Project for Combating TB, an association not for gain incorporated under section 21 of the South African Companies Act of 1973.
The Board of Directors is responsible for the appropriate use of the funds and monitoring the implementation of the project. Its members are:

The directors of the Nelson Mandela Aventis Project for Combating TB represent the company and are responsible for the management and implementation of the TBFREE project.
The Advisory Board acts as specialist advisors to the Nelson Mandela Aventis Project for Combating TB, in areas relating to the running of the TBFREE centres, the creation of TB awareness and advocacy campaigns, the appropriate messages and timing thereof.
The Joint Working Group comprises of two members from the South African National Department of Health, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Sanofi-Aventis, respectively. It discusses the national and provincial TB activities and reviews quarterly progress reports.
The Audit Committee is entitled to audit the financial records on an annual basis and the half yearly status reports of the Nelson Mandela Aventis Project for Combating TB to ensure that they comply with the company’s mandate.
